Lightbulb Moment
Changing from conventional light bulbs to energy efficient light bulbs is a really easy way to help make your workspace (and home) greener. You can reduce your carbon emisssions by more than 75% with most brands. Energy efficient light bulbs are becoming less expensive and can last up to ten times longer than conventional light bulbs, not to mention that conventional light bulbs will soon be phased out in Australia. Why not make the switch now?
Send Offers With Your Invoice
Even though the purpose of your invoice is to collect payment, you can also use it as a tool to encourage repeat business. Place a special offer or discount at the bottom of your invoice or attach a coupon to get your customers coming back for more. You can also use it as a referral tool to encourage people to refer others to your business by offering a reward or discount for sending them your way.
Legible Logos
Just lately I have seen a number of business logos that have made me stop and think, and this is something you really want to avoid.
But isn’t the point to make people stop and think? Well, yes and no. Even if your business name doesn’t explicitly tell people what it is you do, you don’t want them to stop and think about it for the wrong reasons.
Your logo can be a combination of a graphic and text or either of these on their own. Most logos that are a standalone graphic belong to companies who have put millions of dollars into marketing their brand, such as Apple, and most companies use either a text based logo or a combination of text and a graphic.
The text in your logo needs to be legible, in a colour that is easy to look at, and free of any distraction that stops it being read easily by your potential customers. In this society of instant gratification you only have a split second to catch people’s attention, so don’t make them work hard to find out about your products and/or services!
Don’t Forget to Stop!
Although we all know the theory, we don’t all put it into practice! Make sure you take regular breaks no matter what type of work you are doing and don’t forget to eat. If you work at a computer most of the time, download a program like Workrave that will remind you to take breaks (don’t you dare turn your speakers off!); it even gives you stretching exercises to do.
